September’s “PRIME: Focus on You” Event!

this post written by Beckie of www.beckiegkengle.com

In September, I had the opportunity to attend/help out at the “PRIME: Focus on You” workshop!

I’m not really a fan of flying, but I made the trek from Northern California all the way down to South Carolina for the long weekend, because Amanda had asked me to come and help out. I knew it was going to be awesome! I had a very easy trip with the only snafu being that my purse broke when we landed in Atlanta for a 3 hour layover on the way out. So my first souvenir was a cute new purse to help remind me of a fun trip and the amazing friends I made!

It was hosted by our very own, Amanda of Everyday Elements, and Jill Jarvis of Jill Jarvis Photography! With Kelly Newbury and Sandy Tracy as guest speakers.

I got to meet some awesome women who all had the same passion…photography!

The first day of the event included a whole-group session discussing some of the basics of photography (including back-button focusing, which I am still trying to get the hang of! ;-)). And also included some breakout-sessions after lunch to learn on and off-camera flash, still-life photography, and some business and marketing discussions.

At the end of the day, we broke for dinner and afterwards we all met out at Amanda’s beautiful home on the farm for some fun, sunset photo sessions!

The second day was a whole-group session all about processing!

Amanda discussed organization in Lightroom, and some basic raw processing in Lightroom and ACR.

Jill talked about using templates in PS and PSE for web posting, and ordering custom products for clients.

Kelly taught us how to add texture to an image in PSE to make artistic fine-art prints!

And Amanda got back up and showed us some basic processing in PS and PSE.

I went to help out, but I ended up learning a lot AND I made some new friends! I already can’t wait for the next one!! Stay tuned for details! 😉

All images shot with my D700, and either my 85mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4, or 35mm f/2.

Now I have to go back and post some more of my shots! 😉

  3. Great post bec! So glad you had such a great time! And Yea for using back button focusing. As you know I’ve been using it for years.

  4. Are you planning future events?
    If so, in SC again?
And how many attendees do you allow?

I’m interested in attending a photography workshop next fall but would prefer to to avoid the crowded impersonal workshops that some offer. just curious if Prime Scents is something I should consider.

  5. Sounds like an awesome time!

  6. Looks like it was a great time! Please let us know as soon as you have a date for the Spring!

  7. Any upcoming events in New Jersey by any chance??
