Dual Citizenship {Mac and PC}

Macbook, just out of the box from Apple.

Hello!!! I am posting for the first time via my new (refurbished) 15 inch Macbook Pro laptop. Yep, I now have “dual citizenship” …. I belong in both the PC world, with my custom built PC desktop, and in the Mac world, with this lovely little Macbook.

Why the heck did I want dual citizenship? I have many workshop attendees and blog readers who are Mac users and there are some things on PSE that work differently for Macs than PC’s and I wanted to be able to better help them.

I spent much of Wednesday getting the Macbook up and running, loading various programs, especially my Photoshop Elements 9 and Lightroom 3. I downloaded the free trial of Camtasia for Mac (I bought it for PC in January, but you have to buy a new version for Macs) and will get moving on Mac-PSE tutorials this weekend.

It was a happy moment when I was able to put in the disk for PSE 9! Oh, on that topic, thank you Adobe, for sending the Mac and PC disks in PSE 9 and not making me rebuy it. And, you were brilliant with Lightroom 3; one disk for both. However, you made me an unhappy camper when I found out yesterday that to get CS5 on the Macbook, I have to buy it all over again (which, I won’t, money tree is picked clean). Life’s not fair, I know.

Installing my favorite editing program.

Want a chuckle? I had a good time taking my own picture in the reflection of the laptop screen (top picture). I think I had about 20 versions of that. None of them great composition wise, and none very sharp, but still I had fun. I actually thought of posting like 10 of them for you to see my silliness, but I thought better of it. Yes, I know you’re probably thinking “thank you!” You’re welcome. 😉

  1. Welcome to the world of Mac! You will be conquered by it trust me.
    I am an all Mac girl, the only PC in the house is my husband’s boo!!!

  2. Congratulations on your new citizenship; welcome to our country! As a rather new Mac user (6mo.) I can say that the switch was definitely much easier than I anticipated! I bought and installed Parallels so that I could still run Windows on my Mac, but it occurred to me the other day that it has been weeks and weeks since I’ve used the Windows side.
    You’ll love it – within a few weeks you’ll be trying to remember how to get around on a windows machine!

  3. The Education World likes to live in the world of MAC, so all throughout my schooling I worked on them. I must admit, what I miss most, is PHOTOBOOTH! Now, THOSE make for some awesome self-portraits.

  4. I have only ever had a mac. I need some editing programs so would be interested to see what you recommend as i have no idea 🙂

  5. Katherine Huff says:

    Yeah I am so excited for you! Your going to love it!

  6. I am waiting to see how you take to the Mac. I am currently in the market for a new machine and have been contemplating making the jump to Mac. I’ve always had PCs, but have been slightly fascinated by the Macs I have seen. So far, the difference in what I can get for the money PC versus Mac has kept me firmly in the PC camp, but still…… Can’t wait to see how you feel about the differences in them and which you end up liking better 🙂

  7. Don’t but Photoshop twice! Do a crossgrade with Adobe! See this post:

    Hope this helps!

  8. so fun…congrats on the new book!
