Attention all texture lovers:
Brace yourselves!! Gorgeous textures and fantastic giveaway below!
For those who don’t know her, Kim Klassen is a very talented photographer, editor, trainer and texture creator. She has built an extensive “library” of textures and recipes, which she shares at her site, Kim Klassen Cafe. Her textures are gorgeous and each Friday she shares a free one via her newsletter (so if you don’t subscribe, run do that now).
Below are some of her pictures with textures she has created. Warning, I drool over textures…um..seriously.
Just recently Kim debuted her Recipe Book of 30 Photoshop recipes for adding textures to images. The Recipe Book includes before and after images, the step by steps to each layer in the process as well as a screen shot of the layers palette for each recipe. Some basic info on using the recipe book in Photoshop and Elements has been provided as well.
The Photoshop Recipe Book is an ebook with tons of info…She has put together the ‘stuff’ she has learned on creating beautiful images in Photoshop & Photoshop Elements.
She offers the Recipe Book in four different packages, each package getting a little “tastier” than the one before it.
Now, for the icing on the cake: Kim is generously giving away TWO of her Whole Kit & Caboodle packages!! I love it when giveaways have more than one winner – thank you, Kim!
Here is what the Whole Kit & Caboodle (a $59 value) includes:
- The Photoshop Recipe eBook
- Printable Recipe Cards
- Digital Files – the textures and low resolution images to practice on
On to the giveaway “recipe!” Here is how you enter – simply leave a comment telling me how often you use textures on your pictures (even if you haven’t tried yet).

And, before you leave, let me tell you about Kim’s new Test Kitchen site. It is a forum of sorts, where she shares brushes, textures, recipes, tutorials and more. It looks like a great deal and a very educational site!
I don’t use textures as much as I’d like. Mostly because I don’t know how to use them very well. I think I need this recipe book!!!
I subscribe to Kim’s blog
And I like her on Facebook.
And I like Everyday Elements on Facebook too! Love actually!
I’ve used textures a few times, mostly on flowers. Haven’t tried it with people in the photo. But I do like textures a lot.
What there is more? I’ve only just discovered actions and am trying desperately to decide how far (or not) to go with them. Most of my photos end up simply in family scrapbooks, and I er towards reality – until I see what someone has done with actions, and then I start drooling again…….and the self argument starts all over.
These textures look amazing, so beautiful and emotion evoking…..I can feel another argument coming on.
Wow what a great giveaway! I just got used to actions and now TEXTURES? I can’t wait to use them on my photos . . . hope I win! 🙂

I rarely use textures but I have played around with them. I love the “work of art” that they can create but I also love the “honesty” of a photo without them. But the idea of a recipe with before and afters would be lots of fun! I hope I win!

Thanks for posting about Kim’s blog! I am always looking for new inspiration, and she truly delivers (as do you!). I use textures to soften photos that I print out on fabric for quilts… I think the hardest thing for me is not using the textures, but taking a good photo in the first place.
