Camera Cheat Sheets – Review and Giveaway

GIVEAWAY IS OVER

WINNERS LISTED AT BOTTOM OF POST

This past weekend a sweet new photography friend I have, Jessica, introduced me to a delightful little tool for finding your way around a new camera – CheatSheet by Bert Sirkin.

We were trying to figure out a few things on her rockin’ Canon 5D and I asked her a question, like “where is such and such…” and she breaks out the CheatSheet for that model and I was all amazement. I loved it and we used it over and over during our time together.

I thought I’d share a picture of her CheatSheet from my desk, as we would take pictures of the Coke Zero bottle on my desk. (Everyday Photography past attendees will be glad to see it’s not the same old Diet Mountain Dew bottle or a water bottle).

Jessica brought her camera manual with her as well, but we were able to find the answers faster and easier on the CheatSheet than in her manual. The CheatSheet has information that is practical and necessary for using the camera, put into easy to understand format and well organized sections.

After she left I got on the computer and found out there are CheatSheets for almost all DSLR and upper-end point and shoot cameras!

Where have I been? How did I not know about these? I feel like my head has been in the sand!

Know what I did on Monday? I ordered CheatSheets for my Canon G12, the Nikon D5000, D7000, Canon Rebel T31 and Canon 60D.

These awesome little tools are packed with information front and back, laminated for durability, folds up for travel and are only $10.95 each. Well worth the price!!

Why the CheatSheets for cameras I do not have? Well, so I can help others with their cameras during my photography workshops. It brings me joy to help others learn their camera and these little sheets will help me help them.

Onto the giveaway… I am giving away two CheatSheets to two sweet Everyday Elements readers.

To enter simply tell me the camera you trying to learn and how long you’ve had it. Make sure to leave your comment on this post at the blog, not on Facebook.

  • One entry per person
  • Giveaway ends Sunday, July 31 at 11:00 PM EST
  • Winners chosen via Random.org

Winners have one week to respond to my email after which another winner(s) will be chosen. Once I have received physical addresses from the winners, I will purchase their camera’s CheatSheet at Amazon and ship to them within a week.

I decided to make it THREE winners instead of two since there were so many entries (I’m such a sucker, I know). The winning comment numbers are below, and emails to them have been sent. If you were a winner but have not received an email, check your spam/junk folder please.

#179 Annie, #22 Bridget, #268 BreeAnn

  1. Those cheat sheets are AWESOME!! I could use one, not only for myself, but for my husband whom I am trying to teach how to use our camera before our baby arrives in 3-4 weeks!!! We own a Canon T2i and have had it for about 13 months.

  2. I received the Canon T3i for Mother’s Day. It seems like I don’t have the time to play and learn with this camera like I’ve done in the past so I’m learning as I go and missing great shots as a result. A cheat sheet would be awesome!

  3. These sound like they could be super helpful. I’m learning on a T2i that I got this past Christmas. I would love to have one of these handy for a quick reference!

  4. Hi, I would love a CheatSheat for the Canon 7D. I don’t have it yet; I have to wait until it’s delivered tomorrow by UPS. I had a 50D, which was destroyed in our recent house fire. The 7D looks an awful lot like the 50D on the back, and that’s the reason for the upgrade (and why I’m skipping the 60D). I am anxious to start using the new camera. I haven’t had a camera in my hands for a month!

  5. I love the cheat sheets. My camera is a Canon 7D and I’ve had it for about 6 mos with still alot to learn!

  6. I have had the D7000 for about 4 months and one of these cheat sheets would be so helpful! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  7. My husband bought me a Canon Rebel T1i back in October, after we had our first daughter. It’s awesome but when I need to figure out how to do something, I don’t always have the time to Google it or look it up in the manual with a (now) 10-month old all over the place. This cheat sheet would be perfect!

  8. JESSICA says:

Awesome! I’m a newer photographer and have only been at it a year, but I have a Nikon D3000, and love it!!!! Thanks so much!!!!

  9. Joanne C says:

So cool! I got the Canon EOS Rebel T3 about 2 months ago. It’s quite a step up from the PowerShot I had before that. 😉

  10. Thank you!!! That is fantastic!!! XOXO

  11. Very cool! I’ve had my Canon XSI for a couple of years now, but still go back to the manual periodically. A cheat sheet would be fabulous!

  12. i have a rebel xsi, and i’ve had it for about two years now. i am happy to say that i don’t shoot on auto anymore, but i have so so much to learn still!

  13. Those look great, just what I’ve been looking for. I’m trying to get comfortable with manual mode.
    Nikon D40
I’ve had it about 4 years but this year I’m committed to move beyond Auto mode!!!

  14. Catherine says:

I have had the Nikon D3000 for a year and a half. I am learning new things about this camera every day!

  15. Oh, that looks really cool. I could definitely use one for my camer, a Canon Powershot SX10 IS, which has a lot of manual settings but I just have not had the time to figure them out. In fact, I put the one for my camera on my amazon wish list… so in case I don’t win (probably WHEN I don’t LOL) I can order one! Thanks for the heads up! (I’ve had this camera for about 2 years)

  16. La Chapstick Fanatique says:

Canon Rebel T2i – I have had it since Christmas of 2010

I took a class at our local art institute but it sure would be nice to have a cheat sheet for when i am out and about.

  19. Donna Boyle says:

I would absolutely LOVE to win one of these. There have been several times trying to use my camera on a shoot where I was trying to replicate something I read in the manual one time but under the pressure of the shoot I either couldn’t find it in my manual, or didnt have it with me. These would be a lifesaver. I have a Nikon D90 that I have been using for almost a year, I don’t even touch half the controls on that camera that I can!

  40. They sound wonderful!.I’ve had my nikon d3100 for.a few months but I’ve moved from portraiture to photographing homes for real estate and its been like learning a new camera since I need to dive into more advanced features. Also my mother has become hooked on photography and is now moving off the Auto modes of her d40x. One of each would great

I have a Nikon D7000 since March 2011. I love everything about it. It takes incredible pictures, but I wish I new more about it. There are features that I haven’t used because I must learn the camera better. The CheatSheets would be a blessing because they look so user friendly. Thanks!!!
