Gear Review | Shootsac

The following post is by Beckie from BeckieGKengle.com.

Today I want to talk about the Shootsac (created by Jessica Claire & Keats Elliott).

It’s quite an amazing bag that was designed with the intention of having all of the gear you’d need during a shoot right at your fingertips!

Made of Neoprene, it has a little bit of cushioning for your gear, and also conforms to your lenses. In combination with the cover, which keeps debris out, the ShootSac allows you to be able to place your lenses in the pockets without any lens caps for easier and faster lens changes!

With a total of 6 pockets, there is room for 2 or 3 lenses (yep, even the big 70-200 f/2.8), an external flash, and extra batteries and memory cards! And I also put my iPhone and car keys (and sometimes even a bottle of water) in there! ๐Ÿ™‚

This Shootsac can be carried over one shoulder, or you can wear it cross-body (my preference is cross-body). I purchased the extra shoulder pad (it does not come standard with one, however, I think it should), which makes it really comfortable to wear for a whole day when shooting a wedding!

My favorite part about the Shootsac are the various custom covers (it comes standard with a plain black neoprene cover)! I personally have 5 different covers. They are attached to the Shootsac with a strip of Velcro, making it very easy to change your cover to match your mood or your outfit! And if you’re a crafty person, you can even make your own custom cover! I made one in support of my favorite football team (GO Patriots!)!

I admit, there are a couple of downsides to owning and using a Shootsac. The main one being, that it wasn’t designed for storing your gear. So, each time you go out to shoot, you have to pack your gear into it, and then unpack it all when you’re finished. Somedays that bothers me, and other days it does not. ย And when it’s not in use, you have to store it somewhere (I purchased a flat Rubbermaid container for it and my covers that I can slide under my bed).

The other downside is that when it is packed full of gear, it can tend to get heavy. Again, making that purchase of the accessory shoulder pad a must, so that it’s more comfortable! But even with those downsides, it was definitely a purchase that I do not regret, and was worth every penny! ๐Ÿ™‚

A big “thank you” to my awesome model (and amazing friend), Kelly (and her adorable kids) of Kelly Sapp Photography.
