Show Your Skills 10.23.10

Ready to show off your editing skills, whether beginner or advanced? This week’s Show Your Skill image I am sharing is a bit different, but I think it has lots of potential. I was drawn to the barb because of all the cow hair caught in it, making it almost look like a ribbon or bow.

And, to spice things up a bit – one person who links up their picture will win a $15 gift card to Love That Shot, to purchase one of their fabulous products or buy a month’s membership. I will use Random.org to draw the winning link-up number and the winner will be announced in next week’s Show Your Skills post.

Love That Shot

Show Your Skills 10.23.10

There are a lot of things you can do with this picture, so show me your skills! Think gradients, photo filters, blend modes, overlays, textures, you name it!

Next week I will have a person for you to edit, but I thought another week of still life would be fun.

If you enjoy sharing your pictures and/or editing skills, other link-up parties I recommend are at My 3 Boybarians (Sweet Shot Tuesday), Love That Shot (Link-Up Thursdays) and I Heart Faces (Fix It Friday).

Here are the basic rules for Show Your Skills:

  • Click on the image and you’ll be taken to Flickr. Then, click on “Actions” at the top left of the image. Choose “Show All Sizes” and then click on the size of image you would like to download.
  • You need to leave the copyright on the image, please don’t clone it out. I made it faint, but added it to protect myself from someone taking the image and using it for personal/business use.
  • Please link back to this post. You do not have to use the button I provide below, but do link.
  • Share what editing program you used (PS, PSE, Picnik, Gimp).
  • You can share your image at Flickr or on a blog, then come back and add the link to that post/image in the McLinky. Please don’t share it on the FB fan page. I am trying to keep Show Your Skills here at the blog.
  • You can join in at any time during the week; you’re not limited to just today.
  • I will visit everyone who links up and give a gentle critic of the edit.

Here is my play:

Show Your Skills 10.23.10 My Play

What I did to produce my edit:

  • Levels adjustment to bring in some contrast.
  • Two custom gradients to add warmth, light and contrast, set to Soft Light blend mode.
  • A warming photo filter.
  • Remember Me photo veil from Love That Shot, set to Overlay blend mode.
  • One texture from Florabella, set to Soft Light blend mode and reduced way down.

  4. Hi A,

I sent you an email in reply to yours about setting up a time for private tutorials and didn’t hear back. I know my first email to you got buried somewhere so I am thinking the second one did to. Thought this might be the best place to reach you. I am open and flexible to times and dates. You can reach me at the email address I included in this comment or marimac04@aol.com. Thanks so much ~ Marilyn

    • I will email you today. I am sorry I haven’t replied back; my inbox gets so full so quickly and emails I don’t respond to pronto get buried.

  5. I hope I linked it properly because I have never done that before. I posted it on flickr and then linked it from there. I had fun editing that image. tyvm Sherri

    • Thanks, Betty. I added yours to the McLinky too. 😉

      • I didn’t see your note that you added it and put it on my blog and it worked from there!

You can delete it if I can’t!

Bye the way, I forgot that I used one of your actions after first flattening. But can’t remember which one…tried them all and all of Rita’s and Florabellas!

  8. This is a beautiful pic! I like how you’re including both people and still life images.

Thanks for doing this and – how fun – including a prize!

  9. just submitted my first play. so fun! thanks!!

  10. Yay, I finally edited your barbed wire image and got it uploaded on my blog and linked on here tonight! It was a really fun one to play with and I came up with a few different plays, but this was my favorite! I’m loving that you’re letting us edit still life’s too and I’m so bummed that I wasn’t able to join in last week.
