Loving My New Business Cards

This week I am at the Type A Blog Conference in Asheville, North Carolina. I registered for this conference back in February and have been looking forward to it for a while. I went last year and knew how important a good business card is at events like these. So, I planned to have new ones printed. Did I do it well in advance, so I would have time to play and tweak and make it perfect? Oh no. I waited until last week! Ack!

Wednesday, I sat down and tried to hammer out a new business card for myself using my trusty old Photoshop Elements 9. I designed it a couple of times then wanted to throw in the towel. I can edit pictures, but a graphic designer I am not. Suddenly I remember my friend Cheryl’s business card. She blogs at TidyMom and I had a faint memory of her new business card after getting a blog design makeover last year. I contacted her and asked to see her card again, in hopes that it would give me some design inspiration.

Right away when I saw her card, I knew that was the direction I wanted to go. I totally revamped what I had done and went towards a design that was somewhat similar to Cheryl’s. Now, I will be the first to say that hers is by far better! However, for this non-creative, time crunched blogger/business owner/mom/homeschooler, it was the best I could in the short amount of time I had backed myself into (because of procrastination).

Here is what I produced, front of card on top, back of card on bottom. Notice how well my shirt does with the pink dot in the logo? The shirt was red, but I changed the color in PSE.

Regrets, or “hind sight is 20/20” kind things? One main thing – I did not pay attention to how hard to read the green print was going to be. I was always looking at it in PSE, where I could zoom in and out. I should have printed it, even in black and white like I have, because it would have shown me the poor legibility that text has.

Here they are “in real life.” I had them printed at Overnight Prints and I am pretty happy with the print quality. I opted to have the front be glossy since the picture was on there and I am very glad I did; it looks really nice!

I am also extra tickled because I am actually linking this post up to Cheryl’s I’m Lovin’ It link-up party at TidyMom. I love Cheryl and I love my new cards.
