Gear Review | Lensbaby Edge 80 Optic

Written by Beckie of beckiegkengle.com

(After the Lensbaby Composer review I posted a few weeks ago, I was contacted by Lensbaby’s Public Relations department. They loved my review and sent me one of their newest products so I could play around with it, and blog about it!) So, here it goes…

(I used an aperture setting of 4 for these shots, so that there is a little more in focus)

This review is about the newest addition to the Lensbaby family…the Edge 80 optic! An optic is not an actual lens. It goes inside of the lens that I currently have, (remember I talked about the Optic Swap System?) and it is very easy to swap them out using the Optic Swap Tool!

The Edge 80’s main feature is to create a slice of sharp focus, that is surrounded by blur, similar to that of a tilt-shift lens. You choose the placement of that slice of focus, again, by literally tilting the lens and focusing. The Edge 80 has the aperture blades built in, so there is no manually changing of aperture discs necessary with this optic.

The Edge 80 also has a minimum focus distance of 17″ when you use the close-focus mode (activated by gently pulling out the front end of the optic), allowing you to focus on something smaller by getting closer!

I am having SO much fun with the Edge 80! Lensbaby has helped me be more creative and intentional in my photography!

The Edge 80 is compatible with the Composer Pro, Composer, Muse, Scout, and Control Freak lens bodies.

The ONLY thing that I don’t like about the Edge 80, is that when it is installed in my Composer, it doesn’t fit in my little Lensbaby case made especially for the Composer. But I guess I’ll just have to get one of the Lensbaby System gear bags! Oh darn! 😉

(the Lensbaby Composer is available in mounts for Canon EF (EOS), Nikon F, Sony Alpha A/Minolta Maxxum, Pentax K/Samsung GX/Sigma SD, Olympus 4/3 cameras)

  1. I’m totally in love with this effect!!! I’m going to have to get me one of those suckers!!

  2. Great info and such pretty pictures!

  3. While many companies offer temporary roofs, not
all of them offer the best solution. This process is continued
right along the length of the wall, and by the time you reach the end, the first
lot of mix applied should be ready for another layer of cob.
Then, the pulley is extended so as to be hooked along with the to-be lifted machine.
