For those who don’t know her, Kim Klassen is a very talented photographer, editor, trainer and texture creator. She has built an extensive “library” of textures and recipes, which she shares at her site, Kim Klassen Cafe. Her textures are gorgeous and each Friday she shares a free one via her newsletter (so if you don’t subscribe, run do that now).

Below are some of her pictures with textures she has created. Warning, I drool over textures…um..seriously.

Just recently Kim debuted her Recipe Book of 30 Photoshop recipes for adding textures to images. The Recipe Book includes before and after images, the step by steps to each layer in the process as well as a screen shot of the layers palette for each recipe. Some basic info on using the recipe book in Photoshop and Elements has been provided as well.

The Photoshop Recipe Book is an ebook with tons of info…She has put together  the ‘stuff’ she has learned on creating beautiful images in Photoshop & Photoshop Elements.

She offers the Recipe Book in four different packages, each package getting a little “tastier” than the one before it.

Now, for the icing on the cake: Kim is generously giving away TWO of her Whole Kit & Caboodle packages!! I love it when giveaways have more than one winner – thank you, Kim!

Here is what the Whole Kit & Caboodle (a $59 value) includes:

  • The Photoshop Recipe eBook
  • Printable Recipe Cards
  • Digital Files – the textures and low resolution images to practice on

On to the giveaway “recipe!” Here is how you enter – simply leave a comment telling me how often you use textures on your pictures (even if you haven’t tried yet).

  3. I am new to textures, and just kind of “bumped” into them when I “bumped” into Kim’s Blog. I’ve actually come a long way with them in a short time, and hope to continue.

  4. I found Kim’s Cafe about two months ago. I had never used textures before that and I guess when I saw photos that used textures, I just thought it happened through magic. Now, thanks to Kim, I can create my own magic. It’s inspired me to get out there and take tons of photos just for the fun of playing with them in Photoshop which, prior to Kim, I only used to crop and color correct photographs. I told her recently now my house is a wreck, I forget to stop and cook dinner because I’m on the computer playing with pictures. Ha, they won’t go hungry!

  5. I just graduated from school in graphic design and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE people who make my life easier by creating great stuff like Kim does!! And for those of you who haven’t – get those 10 for $10 to help Kim get an iMac – she NEEDS it!!!!

  6. Doreen Lander says:

So…..my life can pretty well be measured by….photography before textures and life after discovering the world of textures. I use them alot…..most of my posts on Flickr are texturized in some way. I have just come across the talented Kim Klassen’s recently and am so impressed by her enthusiasm and wonderful work. Her Recipe Book looks great….would love it.
Having all her textures would be a dream.
    with joy,
    Doreen

  8. I use Photoshop textures in just about every one of my collage works in order to achieve a vintage, yet timeless feel. For several years, I have used the MachineWash plug-in, but that is now feeling very stale and static. I recently discovered Kim Klassen’s blog and her textures have such a uniquely rich mood, I may hang MachineWash out to dry.

  9. Marie Conley says:

I have just recently discovered the world of textures on flickr. I have just begun to learn and experiment with layers in Photoshop. Textures have changed my way of seeing the world and my photographic perspective. I use textures almost daily, but I realize that I still have so much more to learn! The range of effects is beyond my imaging! Thank you so much for your generosity!!!

  10. I found Kim through an issue of Artful Blogging magazine. I had never heard of textures and was just amazed at what she does with her photos. I started playing around with my older version of Photoshop and was having trouble while following her tutorials. Kim generously took the time to personally help me through it. I have used her textures in several of my art group challenges. I have even started trying to make some of my own textures! I am truly inspired by her.
