Show Your Skills 10.30.10

Do you love to edit? Or, are you just learning how to edit? Show Your Skills link-up party is a way to practice or show off what you already know.

This week I am sharing a picture of my niece. The image is a bit challenging to edit because of the White Balance, so I am actually providing you two choices this week: download the original, SOOC and edit from scratch, or download my clean edit and play with actions from there.

Last week I did a giveaway for $15 at Love That Shot, awarded to one person who participated and linked up their image (winner announced at bottom of post). This week I will be giving away $15 gift card to AMP Actions (Amy McMaster Photography). Her actions and presets are divine and you will love them, but you have to participate in this week’s Show Your Skill and add the link to your image in the McLinky spot.

If you would like to start editing with the original, here is the SOOC image. Click HERE to download.

If you are newer to editing and would like to start with the clean edit, click HERE to download.

Show Your Skills Clean Edit Share

If you are unsure how to give an image a “clean edit,” read over THIS POST, which is a tutorial I wrote, giving exact steps to take and included several screen prints to help you follow along.

Following the steps I laid out in my Clean Edit tutorial, I gave the image a clean edit, saved and then ran a variety of actions. My favorite was Maine. Here is a before/after of the SOOC and the clean edit + Maine.

Here are some other plays I did:

If you enjoy sharing your pictures and/or editing skills, other link-up parties I recommend are at My 3 Boybarians (Sweet Shot Tuesday), Love That Shot (Link-Up Thursdays) and I Heart Faces (Fix It Friday).

**To add your image, upload it to a blog or Flickr, copy the exact URL to that post/image, then come back here and look at the very bottom of this post, to where it says “You are next” and “Click here to enter” in red.

Here are the basic rules for Show Your Skills:

  • You are encouraged to edit however you like: your own steps, with an action, with another designer’s actions. Whatever you do is fine.
  • You need to leave the copyright on the image, please don’t clone it out. I made it faint, but added it to protect myself from someone taking the image and using it for personal/business use.
  • Please link back to this post. You do not have to use the button I provide below, but do link.
  • Share what editing program you used (PS, PSE, Picnik, Gimp).
  • You can share your image at Flickr or on a blog, then come back and add the link to that post/image in the McLinky.
  • You can join in at any time during the week; you’re not limited to just today.
  • I will visit everyone who links up and give a gentle critic of the edit.
  • Show your Skills at Everyday Elements

Giveaway Winners!

Last week I announced that one person who linked up with Show Your Skills would win a $15 gift card to Love That Shot. That winner was image #29, by Cindy from Cindy H. Photography. And, I decided to do a runner up prize of a $10 off coupon code from Everyday Elements. That prize goes to Amy from Captured In Color. Congrats, ladies. Please email me to claim your prizes.
