Gear Review: My Favorite Memory Card

This week I shared five things to know about memory cards at Tech Your Way, with tips for buying and using them. I thought it would be fun to share with you which card is my favorite AND give one away!

I started out using Sans Disk cards but switched over to using Lexar soon after. Why? I am not sure why, quite honestly. Lexar seemed to be the ones more professional photographers used, so I simply followed the leader. Sad, but true.

All that said, I have yet to have a Lexar card fail (be corrupted) and I’m always pleased with the write time (how long it takes the image to be saved to the memory card in your camera).

I am currently in Charlotte, NC, for my third and final trip in just four weeks! It has been very hard to keep up with posting this month, so doing a giveaway will help alleviate my guilt and hopefully make someone a happy photographer/enthusiast.

What is the prize? Either a Lexar 8 GB CF card or a Lexar 8 GB SD card (depends on winner’s camera). GIVEAWAY IS OVER.

Congratulations to Hope, who had winning comment number #48!

I have about 4 but three of them were bought cheaply and the write time is very slow. Would love to have one where I can snap away as quickly as I please.

    I have 4 SD cards

  25. Yippee! We love give-a-ways! I own 6 data cards (I shoot dog shows and don’t like to have all my images on a single card – just in case something happens). 5 of them are 4 gb SanDisk ExtremeIII and the other is a 16gb SanDisk. I use ALL of the cards at a day’s event! Thank you for the chance to win and try another brand!

  26. Two – always good to have a back up!

  27. I only have one and it is old and small…crossing my fingers for this one.

  28. I’ve got 2-16gb, 4-4gb, and 2-2gb. Most are over 2 years old, so it’s time to re-invest and get some new ones 🙂

  29. I have two, both san disk extreme. Haven’t had a problem with either, but would love to try the lexar. Amanda, thanks for all you do and share!

  30. I have 2, both 8GB, both SD. Now I’m curious about trying Lexar. thanks!

  31. 11 CF cards, 3 SD cards and one new micro – I’ve been shooting digital since 2003 and while I used to write over that slowed down processing time so now I write and save – most of my cards are SanDisk and CFs are getting harder to find! Would love to find a MiFi CF version!
Hope you are having a great summer Amanda!

  32. I currently own 2 SD cards, but would love something with some speed.

  33. Kayla Ann says:

I probably own over 25; however I only know where about 3 of them are. That’s one of the things I’m constantly replacing (kids, dogs, even I’ve lost one or 2)

  34. I currently have two memory cards…one for my dslr and one for my point and shoot. I would love to have an extra one!

  35. I have 2 sd cards, but would live to try one of these. Thank you for offering this give away!!!

  36. Three cards, one jump drive and a backup device!

  37. Amanda, maybe it’s Karma, or just good luck or I truly believe you are God’s gift to me! I have a lot of “stuff” going on in my life that is not that much fun. Doesn’t leave me with much “me” time but when I do have a few moments I escape to my photography projects. In the past few months found your blog and cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed them, how much I have learned and just how very valuable they are to me. You write things in a way that is easily understood and almost by magic you write on the exact topic at the exact time I am ready to “hear” it. Just opened this today and guess where I was already headed….off to purchase new cards!!! Wasn’t sure which kind and now I know exactly what and why. Thank you AGAIN for being there!!!
As for my bag, I already have about 12 cards (I keep my most important travel and grandkid pics stored there–kind of over kill maybe but that is one of 3 places I keep them stored). Anyway, I have several Lexor probably only because they were the ones on sale when I needed one. Now I know that they are the ones I need to use consistently. Thanks again for being such a wonderful source of info. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

  38. I currently own 1 – thanks for the review / giveaway!

  39. As of yet only 2. One Sandisk 8GB and one Transcend 32 GB CF Cards.
So certainly not enough as aspiring photographer (well studying to be 🙂 ).
I have several on my wish list :))

  40. It’s hard to say, sometimes they get tucked away into corners…. I think I’ve got about 5 of varying qualities and age. I definitely need large and fast SD to create all the pictures I see around me. (SD)

  41. Becky Misner says:

I have 5 SD cards in various sizes. Thanks for the tip of not putting all pictures on one card. We are traveling to Alaska and I will plan to use at least a couple of cards. Thanks for the opportunity to win a Lexar card.

  42. Pamela Schafer says:

I only have one 16 gb SD card for my Canon 🙁

  43. Shannon V. says:

I currently only have 1 SD card (2GB) for my DSLR (a Pentax K100D). I bought another last fall only to find out that the memory is too high for my camera with the version of firmware that is installed on my camera. So I attempted to update the firmware and something went terribly wrong….my camera wouldn’t work :'( . I thought it was finished….I cried. After the initial shock wore off (2 or 3 weeks later), I called Pentax Canada and was explaining to the lovely CS/tech guy on the phone what happened. He told me to turn my camera on (he wanted to know what happened when I turned it on (which was nothing) and when I did…all was well with my camera…I squealed with glee (pour guy).

Anyway…long story short….he told me that next time I want to upgrade, just to send them my camera and they would do it for me. I asked if I could just bring it to them since they are less than 1 hour away & he said sure. YAY!!!!

Still haven’t done it, but if I win your card, I will make the drive to Mississauga! 🙂

Thanks for the great blog and the chance to win!

  44. Meagan T says:

I currently have 3-4GB ones. I think it is time to replace one of them though.

  45. I have 5 cards but would LOVE another 8 g cf card !!

  46. I’m such a newbie. I only have one. Thanks for the opportunity and the giveaway!

  47. What great timing! I am going on a trip in 3 weeks and I vowed to get a 2nd memory card (and battery) for my camera. I just started researching memory cards, yesterday, and your info really helps! Thanks for the info and for the great giveaway! I own one memory card for each of my cameras (4 in all).

  48. Aubrey Anning says:

I have 10 4gb would love to try an 8gb out!

  49. I have 6 SD cards I rotate through!
