Update on Our Two Little Miracles

So many of you continue to inquire about Delanie and Magalita, our two resident miracles, and I so appreciate the continued thoughts, prayers and love you send their way (and my way). I thought y’all would like to seem some pictures of them and hear a few updates.

They are both healthy and energetic and alive!!

They are beautiful and sweet and loved.

We are SO grateful they survived THIS.

The bond between them is touching and real. They sense they’ve been through something awful together, although neither of them remember it.

Signs of the accident are still in front of us…

The significant scar on Delanie’s leg, where they operated to fix her severely broken leg that had to be put back together like a puzzle.

The short stubble in the front of her hair, where they shaved it to put in a bolt to monitor her brain pressure.

The scar right under her eye, where she was deeply cut, but thankfully did not hit her eye and blind her.

The port in her belly where she still received blood thinner injections twice a day for the blood clot in her arm that developed while in the PICU.

The limp she has because she favor the heal where she is still battling a bed-sore that developed while in the PICU.

The brain injury that has left her a little altered from before, more simple. This should improve, we pray and hope.

Magalita’s beautiful face is a bit different than how it looked before the accident. She’s not quite as symmetrical as she used to be. I am not sure if that will change in time, but I hope it will.

She is missing teeth, knocked out during the accident and she’ missing a bone in her cheek that has made her learn to eat differently.

Her beloved mother and brother are painfully absent from her life.

Abner does not ride his bike or scooter, doesn’t build little forts or play with their dog. She is lonely; she is not used to being an only child.

Magali does not work in their garden or tend her beautiful flowers. Magalita gets her hugs and care from her grandmother now, her mother’s mother, but it’s not the same.

Please continue to be in prayer for these girls (and Magalita’s family) as they continue to recover, physically and emotionally.

Lastly, I want to again thank YOU, all of you, for the LOVE and support, the prayers and the compassion you showed to me during it.

I. Am. Grateful.

Truly.

  1. thank you for sharing about these little girls’ recovery.

  2. Quite a miraculous recovery. These two girls are so beautiful. You all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

  3. Amanda, this update brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy that these little ones are alive and slowly healing, although some scars will be permanent (the losses of loved ones).

My brother is brain-injured and became legally blind with his injury. I was relieved to read that Delanie was not blinded; it makes things so much harder. I do believe that her brain functioning will improve over time, though it could be years. My brother is extremely high functioning but lacks social judgment and has very bad short term memory now. His injury occurred when he was 15 – he is now 29.

My heart goes out to you, your family, these little girls, and I hope to read more on their progress.

  4. Thank you for the update! I think about them and you often. I know it’s still a long road ahead for all involved. I’m still praying for continuted recovery for both of these sweet girls!

  5. I have been reading along about this horrible accident, and have had your family and Magalita’s family in my prayers. I could not imagine going thru something this horrific. Thank you for posting this about the recovery of both girls. Usually, when something like this happens, I never find out about the survivors healing. I know it is hard for you to do it, but thank you again.

  6. Joanne C says:

Thank you so much for the update. I think of the girls every time I see you post something new. They are definitely working uphill to process and recover from their emotional and physical injuries, but thankfully it sounds like they have a loving support system.

  7. TEARS! So thankful they are mending. Hope to give both of them a hug in October!

  8. Oh my goodnes … those girls are truly brave and inspirational! Glad to hear they are healing.

  9. I came to your site via a blog as your site was highly mentioned for getting info in learning photography but all that took a backseat once I read the post about these darling children and the loss of a mother and child. MY heart and PRAYER go out to these girls and family. I pray the lord will help ease the emotional and physical pain. ITs hard enough when an adult is hurting but to see children hurt its difficult to comprehend.
I know pain as I had my leg mangled with 8 surgeries. GOD bless this dear child in her recovery process.

MUCH PRAYER will be going out.

  10. Thanks so much for sharing. I have wondered how they were and am so pleased to hear they have come so far.

  11. Thank you for the updates, Amanda. Such a painful story, it brings tears to my eyes. Will keep them in my prayers.

  12. Danielle says:

Bless them both! <3 They truly are miracles.

  13. The girls are beautiful in their imperfections, just as they are. I will keep them in my prayers.

  14. Sweet angels are beautiful and amazing. May each day be better than the day before and they be healed inside and out.

  15. Continuing to pray for those precious girls. Thanks for the update.
